All About Pocket Knives

the tang stamp dates this knife between 1934 - 1953
I read that after pal acquired Remington they made mostly fixed blades
anyone know if this is a pre Remington Pal?
made in the Plattsburg or Holyoke plant?

In 1945 Pal Blade Co changed their name to Pal Cutlery Co.
The factory closed in 1953 according to Goins’ “Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings.”
As far as I know, Pal was not in business before they purchased the cutlery division of Remington in 1940.
Perhaps someone else can address this.

It appears to me your knife was made between 1945-1953.

the Price , Zalesky book,2008, says they used both blade co and cutlery co makings
two firms joined together in 1935 as the Pal Blade Co, but used those two different stamps
I have about 6 books now and try to research there and not depend upon the folks here to pass their long research onto me, that would not be fair
well, back to the books

I think I may not have that one, a situation I will have to remedy.

What does Price/Zalesky say about the tang stamp of your knife?

I know John Goins has mistakes in his books, most knife writers do.
The history of the cutlery industry is so broad and it has never had the type of in depth research is given to other types of history.

Overall Goins books are great, I highly recommend his “Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings” if you don’t have it.
He has some names listed there I have not found in any other knife writer.

I thought that book looked vaguely familiar, I have the 14th edition.
The reason Price & Zalesky didn't ring a bell for me is that Mark didn't help C. Huston Price on the 14th edition.

Mick I had not read about Mark, would have thought it would be all over AAPK.

I Googled and can find no mention of his passing. I met him at Blade a coupla years ago along with his family. Very nice guy and very passionate about knives. I sure hope this is a rumor.
