All About Pocket Knives

Here is an old Japanese sword that was given to me to have rust removed, cleaned and a Handel made for it. It came to me in really bad condition, I thought it was junk at first, than I saw the makers engravings on the end of the sword. Authentic !
Never making a Handel for a sword before I did my best to construct one from a block of Mahogany I had and using wooden pegs to pin it.
This was a challenging project.

Show me a pic of the nakago(tang).Be carefull polishing,if you buff,use a belt sander,Dremel etc. you can ruin the tempered edge(hamon) or hit core steel.A Japanese sword is usually laminated high carbon steel wrapped around a core of medium or low carbon steel then selectively heat treated and if you grind through the "skin" you can hit the core and destroy the sword.All of the restoration work on a sword done by hand over polishing stones.
