Boker Shield replacement

OK, I got one for ya, just for fun discussion and to waste time.

I ran across this Stockman at a trade day today (bottom of course), and it needs a shield. I already called Boker, and they are sending me a factory shield, but I'm considering a shell casing instead, just because. Not sure if I'll hold into it or flip it, it is kinda growing on me.

So what do you think? Factory shield or 9mm/.38/.357? I'm leaning toward 9mm just because that is my favorite round, but .357 is more "traditional" in my mind.

The shield that Boker sends you wont be period correct for the knife so I say go with the shell.

It seems like you see a lot of Bokers missing the shield. Were they glued on? ::shrug::

Yup, I like it. I think it may have just earned a place in the collection. Main blade still all the etch, it is just washed out by the light.

SM does that shell casing end fit pretty much flush with the handles or is it sitting higher than they are ? I can't tell from the pictures.

The lip actually rides on top of the scale. The existing hole is just a shade smaller than the OD of the 9mm shell, so the ejector groove is actually what is in the hole. I didn't want to risk messing the scale up too much trying to hog it out enough for it to be flush.

Hmmm, funny what the camera shows. Still got a touch of scale in the blade spine, not for long.....

I know nothing about the scallops, but it look looks like an excellent candidate for the shield replacement. Nice find.

Got another one, a Boker 8842, and it got a new shield also. This one is flush mounted, no standoff.
