All About Pocket Knives

Today in the mail from Austria: A nice switchblade hunter from Campolin. The stag handles are very thick and gnarly. Bolsters and liners are nickel-silver. It has a great snap on it and the blade is released by the oval button on the left handle. The release lever is unusually long and from sheet metal. Overall the knife is really good quality!

Well that makes me think the lever is longer, (than what we think as normal), so as the added length
makes it easyer to un-lock a strong(er) sear tension spring. (Ie. "leverage". )

So there's no problem getting an auto knife from Austria to Germany - yet you can't carry it!??
What a shame. Is the "no-carry law" country wide or is it different for other reigens like it is here; from State to State?

Very Nice! Are they still making and selling switch blades in Germany? There used to be a nice little sporting goods shop in Bamberg in Southern Bavaria that had an awesome selection of them.

@Joe: Yes, it´s a pity! After the recent amok runs the voters demanded a more restrictive weapons law. As if Germany already hasn´t one of the most restrictive ones! So, what do you do if already virtually no one is allowed to own a gun? Yes, you turn over to knives. Meanwhile it is illegal to carry single hand opened knives or automatic knives. Fixed knives with a blade length of over 12 centimeters are also prohibited. You may carry all these knives in a closed "container" which can be anything from a suitcase to a rucksack. You may as well carry these knives if you have a "qualified reason" to do so. This law is valid throughout all the states of Germany with no exceptions.

What you still CAN do is buy those knives in Germany or import them from other european countries. I am not sure what would happen if I would import a switchblade from the US for instance. The customs might confiscate it.
