All About Pocket Knives

What steps do I need to take to ship hunting knives in sheaths and pocket knives to Australia. Thanks Doug

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard.

When shipping to Australia, package securely as always and follow the normal addressing steps. The only difference between domestic and international shipping is the Customs Form, available at any Post Office. Give me a few minutes and I'll scan a Customs Form.

I got it wrong! I've only sent one item up until this time. Reading the instructions, you're supposed to do the number, weight and value of each individual item in the package as a line item.
Example:
Pocketknife 1 3oz $75
Pocketknife 1 2oz $64
Pocketknife 1 2oz $31
Sheath Knife 1 6oz $138
Total .... 13oz $308

A lot of people are quite reluctant to ship to overseas destinations. In the end it is nearly as simple as shipping domestic as the higher shipping costs go to the buyer and he has to take care of customs on his end as well.
It is a nice gesture to declare merchandise as a "present or gift" but at least when shipping to Germany it´s not a good idea. Those custom guys are a bunch of smart a**es who know their stuff. It´s a lot better to declare things propperly so the buyer doesn´t have to keep a straight face.
I always ask for international shipping, even when the seller only states "domestic". Most sellers will consider it eventually.

I've shipped several knives to Grant in Australia. So far , no problems.

I should say I have never had any experience in shipping to Australia myself but this happened just last week.
A guy just last week had some Real Steel knives confiscated when they were shipped to him in Australia.
They claimed they were gravity knives.
This is what they told this guy in a e-mail.
"I had the knives seized by Australian Customs.
Here is the reason for seizure:"Being knives that have a blade folded or recessed into the handle which is capable of being opened by gravity,inertia or centrifugal force.
Is this right I thought they just had thumb openers.When on look on their site it does not say gravity opener.

Daggers and throwing knives/blades/axes require written Police Certification (B709B Form) from the relevant Police Firearms Registry, prior to the arrival of the goods in Australia. All other knives require written permission to import from the Minister for Home Affairs, prior to the arrival of the goods in Australia."

Hear is what they are.Defiantly not gravity knives just liner locks.

I have received over 400 knives from the USA to Australia without any problems. ( the only problems is customs took some knives that where send from China for me to try.Anything that looks like a tactic knife they check. ).All pocket knives ( you use two hands to open ) and fix blade are alright. It takes from 10 to 28 days to arrive . The bulk came First Class Mail .
You can track a parcel while it in the USA off the customs number.
I noticed the First Class International mail come with a E-Delcon Service.From what I can find out is that if you open a account with USPS you get free tracking to Canada and Australia.

I find that if you can print the postage, mailing label and customs form on line it is a lot easier. I do that via PayPal.
I have sent quite a few to Australia with no problems, other than one excessive delay. I recently sent my 1st to Russia and, knock on wood, no problems so far.

Not really sure. I am hesitant to post a credit card on line so I have never shopped around. I already have a PayPal account so it always made sense to do it there.

USPS is as secure as any other online purchase. Always look for the 'S' on the 'http' in the URL. i.e. 'https://' That means it's a secure site.

I may be wrong about this but if I recall correctly, the last time I printed postage online, I was given the option of paying using PayPal.
