All About Pocket Knives

I was wondering if anyone had any info on this(age, manufacturer etc.) the only marking is "Japan" located on clip blade. Thanks in advance.

The only thing that came to my thoughts is.

It is a darn sham the owner did not take care in saving this old girl.
I think she had to be a HOTTY when she was young.

The ones Ive seen are imported by a company by the name of Ideal products.A cheap Jap import during the 60,s & 70,s It is...what it is.Hope this helps.Mike

Mine is very similar Gary. Made in the 1960s. It is reasonably well constructed, came with a belt pouch, but just too large to be of service, IMO.

Hello gary ,I have one of these that I bought it at k- mart in the early 70's.
Like yours the only marking on it is japan.

I actually own TWO of these things. My late father (for some reason)
bought us each one...I can only assume they were being touted as some sort of "all purpose camping knife". They're pretty cheaply made, but
hefty...really unwieldy. My only markings are also "JAPAN" on the main
clip blade. Mine date to @ 1962 as far as I can remember.

Kind of off topic, but a funny story concerning this knife...I FINALLY decided to make use of this monstrosity, not for camping, but at dinner at
quite a fancy restaurant my parents had taken us to for a birthday. I was
probably 7 or 8 at the time. As soon as dinner arrived, I whipped out and
opened my "camping knife", and proceeded to eat dinner with it! I forget
who took it away from me (either the waiter or my Dad), but needless to
say, I didn't see that knife again for quite a while!

YUP PERS you are right

I have one of those knives also. I got it in a lot buy that I purchased for one or two of the other knives in the lot. Mine is cheaply made & poorly fit, also from Japan.

Growing up in the 1960's (I graduated High School in 1969), I recall a lot of low quality knives made in Japan in the 1960s. In fact I still have a fruit knife, an Atco I believe, that I bought at Eberhart's Hardware in Ashland, OR about 1963 or 1964 (I was about 12 or 13 - my, how times have changed). The knife was so poorly constructed that about the second time I used it one bolster broke off and the blade flops like a branch in the wind. It was no big loss, you couldn't get an edge on the cheap stainless steel anyway.

That was funny... ...trying to save a little labor for the nice restaurant, and look what happened. Well, THEY say..."No good deed goes unpunished."



My knife is marked MAMBRO/JAPAN, is not stainless, and weighs about a pound...
