Recently added a Buck 310 to my box. I can't tell any difference between my 309 3 blade and this 310? Blades all look exactly the same.

At a certain date the 'three blade 309s' as you call them became the 310s or vis a versa. That is, 309 tang stamped blades were placed in the model 310 with the third coping blade added. The 309 and 310 are the same size only the different tang stamp and the coping blade added as a third blade gives them there difference. All the latter 310s will have 309 stamped blades. At some point they ran out of 310 blades and just used 309 after that.
Buck has made these only as a special order knife for several years. They have not been carried in the catalogs for several years.. In the collectors world its still a 310 whittler.
