Could this be right?

A 1980 Red Letter stockman? The red letter set was released in 1978... was Case still making them in 1980?

I collect these knives and I personally have never heard of this knife. There are a few of the 77 blue scrolls made a year later but I have not heard of a Red letter with a ten dot lightening tang stamp.

Just as information, in Sargent's 5th edition on page 152. It talks about how the 1978 stag sets were not released until 1980 (2 years behind). So Its not out of the realm of possibility.

Hey Gary, my curiosity is up now. I can see them not releasing them, (1978 2 dot tang) until 1980, but would any of them have a 10 dot 1980 Lightening S tang? If so, I'll buy it just because!
I really don't know, but I sure would like to as this is an area of Case that I collect. Kelley

It also mentions on page 151, that the 5254ssp red etch can be found with the 1 dot stamp on rare occassions.
