All About Pocket Knives

.....just won one of these on ebay, it has a blade etch, long line stamp,milled liners, top and bottom. since then, 2 more have appeared on ebay like mine except one has the liners milled only on top, and the other one has no milling at all on the liners???.....how many different variations of this knife are there???................. ...............................

At least three.

The first catalog I've seen the #69 in was the 1946 catalog and it disappeared by sometime in the mid to late 1980s.

The early ones were milled top and bottom and had bone handles. Top and bottom milling was continued into the long line Delrin era but the back milling (middle liner) was discontinued sometime in the '70s during the long line period. I have an Italic tang stamp 69 that has no milling on it at all. Some folks figure the Italic stamp was 197x-198x. Stamp shown below.

....jerry, don't have the knife yet, but it appears to be bone,liners are milled full length on top, and at least the center liner has the intermittent milling on the bottom........ .........

....just got the knife, and I kinda like it, i'm not crazy about stockman patterns, but this one is growing on me!!..my biggest surprise was the size of this knife, i'm used to carrying a whittler, and this knife is 1/4"longer and a lot heavier!!!........ ...........

Same, same here. I'm not totally infatuated with them like I am the 72s but there is a strong attraction. I have those two and just bought another. Won't know which edition it is until I get it. Maybe later in the week.


So, did yours turn out to be bone or Delrin?

...jerry, I looked at the edges with a magnifier, and I can't see any fissures, so I guess it's delrin-if it is , it's some of the best-looking delrin I've ever seen!!!...also, I thought it had a blade etch, but it doesn't, which is fine with me, I can rub on the blade without worrying about removing it. I really like the big Turkish clip master on this one!!!............. ..........

Un huh. Un huh. My favorite feature of the 69.

Of course it came with a blade etch. If you decide you need one that's pristine, they come up now and then and not for a lot of money.



Edit: BTW. In my opinion, Camillus (along with Schrade/Ulster) had some of the finest Delrin around.

....I may be all wet on this, but i'd much rather have a plain blade than one with a bunch of writing on it!!...i'd much rather look at 1095 carbon!!!....... ............

I agree with you. And there ain't nothing wrong with Camillus derlin either, it was good stuff.

Now I may be way out on a limb here, but...... While stockman knives are my first love, the 69 may, may just be the cream of the whole stockman crop.

....right now, i'm carrying the #69 one day, and a #72 whittler the next day!!..the #69 is beginning to grow on me!!!............... ..........

right now i'm covering the big mosquito model with tissue, and I got such an edge on that Turkish clip blade, i'm using it to trim tissue off, something I always used an x-acto knife for, so I guess i'm hooked!!!........... ..............
