All About Pocket Knives

Perhaps some have already seen this, but on page 45 of the current (Nov.) BLADE MAGAZINE is a photo of a new Queen design based on the Mountain Man Lockback. It is called the Q-Tac 3. One hand opening via double sided thumb studs. The steel is ATS-34, flat grind, satin finish.
Closed length:4.25" The handle material is black G-10. Also comes with a pocket clip.

According to Mr. Daniels the design work was done by Bob Dozier who certainly knows his way around a knife.

Time will tell as it always does, but I am impressed. Although having updated features I believe it has the "vibe" of a traditional lockback. Quite an accomplishment imo.

Sounds intriguing indded QS....would like to see some pics of that one.

I like the looks of it..that G-10 looks similar in style to what Case has used. I like the blade shape too....I just wonder if those thumbstuds would get in the way of some slicing cuts, they seem like they are kinda far out there. Also sometimes hard to sharpen a blade with real prominent studs like that, hard to tell from the pic though. Good looking knife.

Not having any way to capture the photo I took some off the wall pictures out of the magazine. I see what you mean about the thumbstuds. I suspect their location may have been chosen to facilitate an easy opening.

Since it has a nail nick in addition to the thumbstuds...maybe the thumbstuds are removable if you decide you want to got that route?

Queen's site also reveals a few variations, different handle shape, smaller knives specifically designed for the ladies.

Ryan had these on display this past weekend at the Central Kentucky Knife Club Show. VERY NICE!!! I didn't handle them, but very impressed with the overall look.

i looked for the emails from the lady and ryan both......i must have deleted them????

but it was OVER $100 and it was only to be available by a COUPLE "dealers only".....(at that time)
and they couldn't tell me which ones....lolololololol
i didnt have the TIME to contact EVERY ONE of their DEALERS just to see if they had a knife that I felt was WAY OVER PRICED

again i would like to have one!!! but i can wait till they are yesterdays news

The mountain man is a great old design and i like them. A problem I did see on this new one was the ss clip. When stuck in a pocket , imo, too much of the knife handle sticks up. Prying eyes and all.....

I have a feeling most Queen knives made in the future will be pretty high priced

I think I'll pass. I'm not a fan. I don't like the tang stamp, looks cheap to me. I don't like the thumb studs, they look big and awkward and ruin the lines of what could be a graceful looking knife. The finish on the blade and the marking of the steel type looks cheap, to me. Then you put a pocket clip on it. For the life of me I can't figure how you'd get it to ride just right.

If ya want tacticool, get tacticool. If ya want a big single blade lock back, get a big single blade lock back. But the mix ain't working for me.

Then you price it about three times too high. Nope, not for me.

But what do I know, just my opinion.
