Hunting Knife Pass

Last year I received Case XX Stainless Fixed Blade Hunter #5 362-5-SS to review.
I worked on completing that review by toting the knife with me on my missions with my grandsons. Recently I completed the exercises I could extend to the knife. Unfortunately the knife looked back at me and said……”I long to be used as a hunting knife.”
Knowing I let the knife down I’ve recruited a select number of individuals (based on an idea from 313Mike) to help fulfill the knife’s true calling. It’ll be another knife pass, similar to Jezebel’s, but with a more focused usage focus – cutting game, as a hunting knife should.
Particpants will be:
IMBand (Trevor) in Alaska
313Mike (Wisconsin)
OldHunter (Bruce) North Carolina
1967redrider (John) Maryland
zp4ja (Jerry) (not 100% sure just yet).
I may be open to another participant if you’d like to PM me.
This is kind of like Mountain Men……we’re just gonna focus on the knife! So stay tuned as this hunting knife travels through woods we only hoped we could!

Scott -- How about a picture of the knife or should we call it Grizzly Adams. A hunting knife should have a manly name.

True dat, Cutty, it could possibly double as a filet knife. I have an Ugly Stick with an Abu Garcia reel that I haven't broken in yet, might be a good reason to do so.

Cool deal Guys!
BTW Scott, the great state of Nevada! A sportsman's paradise for me!
Heck Scott you didn't tell me old Grizzly was a CASE knife. I am in as I said. It will be a few months till I make make my turn lucrative. I have a cow Elk tag I drew this year but the season does not start until Late November thru January. I have to check the exact dates. I can use it prior that if needed but you won't see a pic of it, gutting a Elk, embedded deeply in a Elk heart or the organ of you choosing, etc. I only ask that before I get the knife, the prior member get Grizzly pretty sharpened up, not my strongest skill, as it need to be razor sharp, but I will make due if not and I will ship to the next member with blood on it and still embedded in the organ of their choice. Wait, maybe not the still embedded in the organ part as if the packing leaks, then USPS will call the authorities and I hate paperwork, etc.
This knife pass enables us to chronicle (like the last knife pass) the story of the knife's life as so members always state "If this knife could talk". Look forward to it and I hope I don't disappoint.
In the meantime Scott, do you have any pics of what the knife has done since you recieved it?
Regards All, Jerry

Griz arrived here today and I thought I better at least take him out for an Alaskan photo. Drove to one of the State Campgrounds that has a nice view of the Mendenhall Glacier. Really like this style of sheath and the knife is very nice. Looks to have a tiny warple in the cutting edge about 2" ahead of the hilt, maybe from Scott's original testing......but should not have any effect on it's function. I want to say Thanks to Scott for including me in the fun, hope to get out and do a little fishing this next week and will take Griz along.

Well.....good day Coho fishing today. I limited at 6, buddy Rick had 1st of day and ended with 4. No monsters but all respectable and a couple on the nicer side. Trolled for about 4hr for these. Rick had one in less than 5 minutes after getting hooks in the water, I put 3 on the boat a little later all within 15 minutes of each other. Most will be smoked......a couple fillets are going on the BBQ tonight. Weather here was extra nice and the fishing was really good, but we went to a really good spot....
Used Griz for cutting leader line and trimming ends of line......then used him for filleting 5 of my 6 fish. Rick had the 6th one done for me before I could get to it. The knife handled well and while not designed for this work....did a good job for me. Was not slippery in the hand, has a nice shape to the handle and the pommel helped out too. Nice point on the knife for getting the back-cut started and had enough 'feel' to stay on top of the 'ribcage'.....one of the more tricky parts for me.
We don't gut the fish, just tow them along side the boat in the cold Alaskan water and then take the fillets off at the dock.
Cleaned Griz up with a warm soapy bath a minute ago and oiled him, really good knife so far......Thanks for opportunity to try it out Scott....

IMBand,
That's just a terrific way to display the knife and its intended workout. A great show and a really nice knife.
Thanks for that.
