All About Pocket Knives

In looking through some old catalogs, this knife ad from a 1902 "Sears Roebuck & Co." caught my eye. It clearly states at the top of the ad and within the text that their knives came "Direct From Our Own Factory". Under the section which starts out "THIS FACTORY" it goes on to say that their factory is located in New York and is under the direct management of one of the largest and best cutlery makers. They also state that they employ their own mechanics. Goins lists "Sears Roebuck & Co." as existing from 1902 to 1905 and also states that other "Sears Roebuck & Co." models from the same time period and with a curved logo, also have the "Napanoch Knife Co." stamp on the back side of the blade tang. I wonder if Sears was leasing space from Napanoch to produce their own models as well as contracting to Napanoch to produce knives for them during the short four year time period?

I have a old jack with the Sears. Nap is stamped on back side tang.
If anyone is interested I will try to get a picture and post.

Yes, those are the prices but don't forget that you have to factor in the shipping cost at 4 or 5 cents each.

Yes, I thought that was an interesting statement as well and leaves some interpretation up in the air.

Wow very cool! I swear I think Sears, Roebuck & Co made/sold virtually everything at one time or another - I wouldn't be surprised if they built/sold cars and tractors!

Here is a picture of a 1953 Allstate which is a re-badged Henry J(made by Kaiser)sold through select Sears stores and the catalog from 1952-1954.This particular one has been hotrodded a bit and if you look closely in picture#3 you can see the custom gas pedal that was made from the bottom of a steam iron!

Sears sold complete houses too!

And barns.

Probably for looks only.I don't know the guy who owns the car personally(I see it at car shows periodically)but I know it has a stock engine that likely has about 50 hp so I don't think it is for protection at speed.
I have a couple of surfboards on the roof of my wagon but I've yet to ride them.
