Thanks guys! I don't hold much hope that I'll ever see it again, but maybe he'll get caught someday. I hate thieves.

Very sorry to hear of this incident Barry but how are you going to identify it if it should turn up as there were several of those knives made and the one you are showing does not appear to have a serial number engraved in the bolster. Does it have a special marking on it?

Sorta puts anyone who pulls out a knife like that under a veil of unwarranted suspicion so-to-speak unless you can definitively identify it and give specific info on it that sets it aside and makes it unique.

Hope it'll turn up. Danged shame. It's a very nice knife.

I wondered that too Ed, but he has pictures and stag is as unique as fingerprints.

Yes, I agree with you about stag being unique BUT if you or I were to pull out a knife like that in a group of guys at a gathering and anyone there had seen this thread, they might wonder if it was the stolen knife posted about by Barry. That's an unwarranted suspision not fair to the guy displaying the knife.

I suppose you're right. It's not the way I would think (I'd probably not remember there was a stolen knife.) but I'm just one and there's not another like me.

Guys, the knife disappeared out of the local US Post Office. Here's how it happened;

I dropped off three USPS Small Flat Rate Boxes at the local PO, but instead of dropping them in the 'bin' (which clogs when I try to put Small FR boxes in) I put them on the counter that was manned at the time by an employee. I've done this many times and the USPS employees have instructions to scan these regularly. Within five to ten minutes of when I dropped them off (and I verified this), two were scanned in (and later delivered) but the third never was scanned into their system. So, one of two things happened; either it evaporated or someone snitched it off the counter. OK, there's a third option of an employee taking it. It would have showed up at another PO had it gone out in the mail, and the Postmaster tells me they do a search every night for misplaced mail/packages.

Unfortunately, the addressee didn't notify me until ten days had gone by and (my bad here) I never checked on delivery from my end, so there was a delay in action there. I've now gone to a new system that allows me to keep an eye on all my shipments at a glance, so I can see a problem if an item isn't delivered within two or three days (my normal shipping time).

Anyway, I had to report it stolen, etc., etc. and the package was insured (though never scanned) so I hope to get my money back, but my customer really wanted 'that particular knife' and I wasn't able to replace it for him, which bums me out.

So what do you think happened? I have a hard time imagining someone snitching it off the counter in front of a USPS employee within minutes, but it must have happened that way. Employee theft? Possibly. Disintegration? I doubt it.

Not every package scanned shows up when tracking the shipping number. I've had that experience a couple times. Could be it is in the USPS system somewhere in limbo.

Ed, the PO always tells me the same thing; their mantra is "it isn't lost, just misplaced somewhere. It'll show up..." meanwhile, I'm still waiting for a package to show that vanished from their system almost two years ago. And it was sent from a Post Office to another Post Office, both in the continental US. I don't think I'll ever see the stag 92 again.

Frustrating for sure!!!! I truly do hope it shows up.
