All About Pocket Knives

Went on a mini vacation to Trout Creek, Mt. and of course hit a couple of yard sales and flea markets. Picked up these nice two gems.

First is a Uncle Henry LB7 with sheath I got from a north Idaho flea market on our way back from vacation for $10. The second item is an unknown riggers knife. On the chain lanyard is the number #4112A U.S. Corr and the date on the can opener is 1941 with the letters S.S.P. over it. I paid $20 for the riggers knife. I will be placing the knife in a molasses/water mix to help remove the rust and hopefully shed more light as to who manufactured it.

You got a great deal on the Uncle Henry Bear Paw, great knives. The 'Riggers' knife is a WWII British Army Clasp Knife. The S.S.P. stands for Sheffield Steel Products. That's about all I know off hand but I'm sure more of the story could be uncovered.

That's interesting. Never heard of that method of removing rust. Good deal on the knives by the way.

The gentleman I purchased that knife from recommended it. Take 1 part feed molasses to 4 parts water. Let it soak for a week suspended in the mixture and he claims the rust falls off and it is more environmentally friendly than an oil bath.

MM -- I've seen that molasses method of rust removal posted on AAPK within the past year (I think). Please post the results when you're finished.
