All About Pocket Knives

Does anybody know if these will be bareheads or not?

The #15 Boy's Knife is not an Easy Opener, but was made a barehead in both clip versions (single and double blade versions).

I believe there is an upcoming model that will be an EO with sheepfoot main, either single blade or with a pen secondary. In standard Boys Knife clothes with the exception of the yellow bone. Just wish I knew about the bolsters.

Jon -- I understand some are coming out in bone handles (rumor at this point, at least to me). Anyone know if they are going to put out an easy open, two blade, sheepfoot & pen, bone handle (or stag) AND CAP BOLSTERS???

I dont have any inside info, I just look at the photos on GEC's site.

I imagine they will release a smooth ivory bone OE 2 blade, but from where I sit, it will be a barehead, otherwise this spy photo would show the bolster on both ends of this assembled EO liner:



I would be happy to be debriefed and re-educated, since I note you like Jack style bolsters, at both ends.

Ordered this one from Bob today, bareheaded with ebony grips. Should be some with bone grips coming out soon. OH

And this run is definitely Bareheaded. I haven't heard of a capped option as yet.
The problem with a cap on this size knife is, there is a thin point of wood behind the notch (at the cap-ward edge of the notch) that can split off easily - not good design, IMO.
I have seen several old EOs that are missing that piece!

Then don't put wood handles on the capped version. These old EZ-Opens have stood the test of time. (Yes, I understand most of them have synthetic handles and it's tougher than natural materials.) Middle top is bone.

Received my new #15 EO Boys Knife yesterday and I do believe GEC outdid themselves with this knife! Fitting is perfect; blades are centered, half stops are solid, opening and closing snap is perfect (nice and "snappy" without chipping my fingernail), the ebony has a rich chocolate color which isn't too black - you can see some figure in the precisely fitted wood handles. I have found a great artist drawing of this knife in an old BSA manual - going to get it scanned and will post for comparison purposes. I heartily recommend one of these knives gents! OH

I agree Colonel. The #15 pattern, Barlow or boys knife, has become a huge success for GEC and a great knife to own for their customers (us). I look forward to seeing the drawing you have.

Here you go Jerry; this is a page from the advertising section of the first (1911) Boy Scout Handbook. The BSA published a reprint of the book in 1975, which I own a copy of - I have some very old Scout Handbooks, but they are too delicate to hold open on a scanner. There were two NYKC pocket knives offered in the first handbook; the two blade EO for .50 and the traditional, four blade Scout knife for $1.00. Wouldn't you like to go back in time and stock up on some of these! I think GEC captured the essence of the original pretty well and I am glad they left off the "shackle" (BSA term for bail), as they always get in my way - I don't wear a pocketknife on a hanging belt clip (or I haven't since I was a Tenderfoot Scout). OH

Well I just ordered a #15 EO in Rust Red jigged bone - single Sheepfoot blade! I'm tickled pink and can't wait for it's arrival

The Sheepfoot blade has really grown on me lately after seeing so many pics of them. I've never had one before but I like this shape especially for a hard-work knife. I also can imagine sharpening the STRAIGHT EDGE will be far easier than a blade with a curve in it's edge... Just set the angle and hone it!

Can anyone post up some pics of their #15 EO's?? I'm dying to see some more of them. I'll try to post the online pic from the site I got it from.

I got one of those as well... except mine is in ebony wood, I agree with ya good hard working knife, easy blade to sharpen. it should be here in a couple of days.

It used to get to me... Only a little bit now, don't get me wrong i still get the itch until it arrives. Not as bad as at first.
