All About Pocket Knives

Both of these were gifts from my daddy, so that makes them special. But better even than that, these are hands down two of the best knives I've ever packed. The stagalon is a 78 pattern (love that swedge on the clip), and the 69 pattern. I believe they were referred to as the premium Stockman and the deluxe Stockman. Both have the long line tang stamp.

They're well used, but in good shape, and I've been packing them for a few days. They're like three bladed razors!

My favorite is the 69. I love the Turkish clip, long blades, and the nail nicks for the clip and sheepsfoot are on the same side. Simply fantastic knives.

Any other 69 or 78 fans out there?

I could be a fan just because of the nail nic's..That 69 is nice.

Thanks Guarddogg. Here are a couple of better pictures. I really like the nail nicks on the same side on that 69 too. But notice the milled liners, that really sets it off too.

The 78 has an awesome swedge on the clip that I love. I still prefer the Turkish clip of the 69, but I do like that swedge.

It's unusual for me to say I like a stockman but I'm enamoured with the 69. I have a couple (did have three) and passed on a bone handled one recently. I'm kind of sorry I didn't try for it because it was really nice. Yeah, that Turkish clip is what gets me too, plus the milled liners.

Bone handled? Jerry why do you do this to me? Now I must have one!

Stockmen were all I ever knew growing up. Of out wasn't a Stockman it wasn't a working knife. I've grown since then, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for a Stockman knife.

............colonel, the staglon-handled Camillus stockman is one of the few stockman patterns I like, I have a #78 and #89 that my grandfather gave me in 1952 that I treasure!!!, both are about used up, but I still like 'em!!!!.............................. ...........................

If I'm not mistaken, the Indian Stag handles series was started in the early 70s

It's really very beautiful knives. I do not have #78, but I have #88 and #89 #69 is also very beautiful

...........vit, another Camillus mystery!!......just looked at my #89, it is the 3 line stamp with the short line under Camillus, which goin's says is 1946-1950!!........i'll have to open up the display to check the #78, but i'm almost certain it's the same................. .............................

I have long learned catalogs and price lists of Camillus, and combined these materials to the table.

Unfortunately there are a lot of blind spots, and one of them from 1966 to 1971

For the longest the 69 was my favorite if the two. But in the week or so I've had the 78, man it's grown on me. It's one heck of a knife.

It doesn't hurt that it has blade wear either. Matter of fact I'm with knives like I am with my garden hoes, they don't really take a good edge until they're wore down some. Then they get sharrrrrrp. This 78 and the 69 are like three bladed razors!

This Kabar 1108 (mfg by Camillus) looks like the "base model" to your Deluxe Camillus 69 - I think the thin blades add to the svelte look of these knives. OH

........just opened up my display and checked the tang stamps on all my staglon-handled stockman patterns-the #89 my grandfather gave me in 1952 is a shortline stamp(1946-1950)-the other #89,#78,#73,#71, and#70 I have are all long-line(1960-1976).............. ....................
