Ka-Bar new to me....

I just got this in the mail today...It was advertised as a Viet Nam era Fighting knife. The sheath and knife have a name inscribed on them and while its in well used condition, it is strong...but I know nothing about it...it is my first Ka-Bar combat knife.

Any info would be great...I was expecting a leather disc handle but this is wood and the pommel is not shaped like I expected. I love this knife...but it does not seem like a standard Ka-Bar fighting knife...if there is such a thing.

Can I sharpen it/clean it up or should I just leave it and treasure it....

Thanks

After a lot of looking for info, I stumbled across this info on the KA-BAR 1209. They were commercially available and were sold in many PXs in the early 70s. So while not a Mil issue, this knife may have gone to war...but there doesn't appear to be any way to verify it. No matter, I didn't pay much for it and it seems like a strong knife. I will clean it up some and sharpen it. It should serve me well.
