All About Pocket Knives

Is it possible to use the bone of a gator to make knife handles..?? If it is I picked up a couple today and if you want them they are yours..Let me know..

Very interesting. I wonder how dense gator bones are

At first, I figured they probably wouldn't be very dense, but I guess they do carry a lot of weight when out of the water. ...and everything else about a gator is tough as nails. Why not the bones?

I'm curiouse to hear how they work out.

Johnnie sent word to me that he is going to share the bones with you.
I will go back to the gator site and look for more bones, most of what is left was small bones like the ribs and back bones. I wish I would have been a little faster on the thought process.

Me too, would make a very interesting handle! Maybe a hawkbill with gator bone handles . Hey how about that skin lying around there, is it dried? Does it stink? I got an idea

Speaking of bones...................
I just got back from the OKCA show. I got a set of Sea Cow bone handles. It is supposed to be stabilized, but still seems a bit porous. They should look good on a knife.

I can't wait to try the gator bone!

I have heard of (in the junk yard business) going back to the bone yard.
But here we see Sunburst in his own back yard calling it a bone yard.
... ...The man is always thinking. Next he will find a Water-Buffalo and want to turn his hoofs in to knife scales.

Let me check out the gator site again this week. Most of the bones and hide are gone..Drug off by whatever kritter could get to it. But let me go through it one more time..

There is a local man who uses gator bone out of the jawbone for knives, I have not seen his work yet but he was mentioned in the local paper.

My little 7 year old granddaughter likes to come out into my shop and clean it up for me.
However, If I am working horn or bone...........I am on my own. She says; "Grandpa, it stinks out here! I am going in the house."

My nick name for her is "Boogie Lips" because she can talk non-stop while cleaning my shop, or doing anything else for that matter!

But she is a little sweetheart.

ok, the bones ended up having a few critters in residence. poisoned and left in my shed til today. a little porous, but i will be cuttin some slabs off the bigger bones. in the meantime, i have been using a oiece of wire for a knife stand on a lot of my pics and looking at the bone pile at the vertebrae an epiphony. sawed off a little and..... a genuine florida citrus eatin gator stand. better than a plastic one

WOW....just found this post. Sounds like you guys had Sunburst to scavenge the old gator for the best parts but maybe what I'm interested in is still there. Did you see the penis laying around Sunburst? If it can be done with walrus, why not gator? So if you can find this gator's penis, I'll pay the shipping! I'd say gator penis would smell good in transit also.
