All About Pocket Knives

Hi,

I just joined this site in the hopes of getting some restoration work done on my Camillus 99. I'm completely new to knives but will do my best to describe what I've got.

The rippled handle is in great shape and doesn't need any work. All the blades open well enough but are in need of sharpening and general cleaning. There is some rust on the bottle opener and pointy tool but there is also bright chrome finish showing very close to where the blade hinges into the knife body -- it's been protected from the elements.

This was my father's and best I can tell from research on-line, it dates from the early '50's. I'd like to restore it and give it to my son for sentimental reasons. Overall, the knife is in great mechanical shape and I'm hoping someone here does the kind of restoration work that would bring this back to life. Please see the photos I've attached.

I appreciate hearing from anyone interested or with good ideas about where to turn.

Thanks for the encouragement, link and offer.

How does one go about cleaning out the blade 'channels' in the knife body? There's some crud in there that looks to be hard to get to.

I should have read the article before asking about cleaning out the knife body!
The larger issue for me is not knowing anything about blade sharpening, so I need a skilled craftsman for at least that aspect.

Some of the guys use a sonic cleaner ( I have one on the way ). I use a bit of Nevr-Dull on a toothpick. I could send you some as I seem to have a lifetime supply.

Sharpening is also something you could do yourself. I'm far from an expert at that. Perhaps others would be interested in doing that aspect.

Edit: Or someone in your local area.

I have no inclination to learn sharpening, especially on this particular knife. There is one person locally who is recommended so I should check him out.

If I sent you the knife, what would you charge to do the cleaning?
