How do you know its 97z? tang mark on pile side?

Dan: The is nothing on the pile side of either blade. The tang of the Spey blade has 'MADE IN USA' w/ '1997' below stamped on it. Both blades have what appears to be very faint remnants of earlier stamping or etchings on them. The Spey has '1 of 800' and the Clip has what appears to be a 'Q' with another word word that I can't make out under and to the right of it. Both stampings/etching are in cursive. What would be the explanation of those markings? Do you think the blades were re-purposed for this model knife? I'm new to collecting so maybe you could shed some light on it.

I'm no expert- just interested.My eyes didn't pick out the 97 and I was wondering how you knew. I think Queen has been quite "flexible" in marking blades and using blade etches. I have not heard of blade etches wearing off this fast but some are much lighter than others and seem to wear off a bit. More than likely some owner polished a bit more vigorously.

I have a Queen SFO swing guard - Imentiioned it on this site a few months back. It has some of the same simple script lettering as yours. I wouldn't be surprised if your knife was part of a special order and got unusual treatmentnear the end of the 20th century. Very nice knife.
