All About Pocket Knives

I just received what I think is a Camillus Cattle knife. 3 5/8" with what looks like brown plastic handles.
The Camillus tang stamps that I've seen on the net date this one 1946-1950 but I can't be sure.
Has anyone seen one of these in a Camillus catalog? The catalog PDF's that I have don't show this model.

For sure, that's a Camillus main blade and it did most likely come from the late '40s or maybe early '50s (dating Camillus knives from a tang stamp is a crap shoot at best). I don't know what the rest of the knife is. The Camillus Cattle Knives in the '46, '48 & '65 catalog all had a clip main blade and they had three pins showing in the handles, two handle pins and the rocker pin. Can't find one with a clip secondary blade (that one is pretty large) and the punch blade does not look Camillus.

Sorry, I don't know what that is. Maybe Dale (orvet) will rouse from his drug induced fog and weigh in on this. (Just joking Dale. You sounded fine on the phone last night. See, I told you my battery was going to die. )

From looking at the last photo it appears that the blade referred to as a clip blade is a ground down spey blade. Remington made one of these with this blade configuration. It has been said that a Harness is a Jack with an added punch. This makes one wonder if there was a three blade Harness jack made. Does Plastic shrink like this shows or is it cel. You think Cam. is trying to mimic the Rem knife I mentioned. It does have the appearance of a Camilus. Just one old mans opinion.

This additional pic might help. The secondary blade could be a reworked spey but it could not have been too much longer than it is now. There's just about 3/16 of an inch before it would make contact with the punch.

I don't disagree as a matter of fact if you enlarge your last photo above you will see the bench that your index finger rested on to prevent the blade from going to deep into the scrotum bag. The length is near full on your knife.

Yes. There is a very small amount of the bench left at the tip. Reworked spey for sure. Thanks.

Could you define some of those knife terms: "Scrotum Bag" and "Bench"? Thanks

Dave did you miss health class the day that was discussed ?

Scrotum Bag is the object of flesh you cut with the spey blade when you neuter an animal.

Bench is the place you sit down.

.....bdev, i thought i had an earlier(4line) version of your knife, but after i looked closer, it is only 3 3/8" closed. mine has the punch(not spiral),primary blade is a spear,it is impossible to tell what the secondary blade was, it looks like a sharp spear now.mine has 3 backsprings, and rogers brown bone with a bar shield, both blades(not the punch), marked. out of 103 camillus knives i have, this is the only one i have with 3 backsprings......?????..............
