All About Pocket Knives

Does anybody know when Union Razor Company stopped making knives?? I guess a follow up to that question is did anybody else pickup the name and start making knives??

calling pa, hey this ones for you. union razor became union cutlery in or about 1909.

Union Razor, actually started in Little VAlley NY. Something few know. The browns then took it to Tidioute, In 1909 the decided to change to Union Cutlery. Read my book and it explains more. No one has used the name since. So has Union stopped makeing knives NO, Kabar lives today and started from Union Razor in Tidioute. The first the Browns made knives. Thanks for asking. You will enjoy the book if you like this sort of thing.

hey pa, is the book out yet?

The book that I have spent the last two years working on is called,
"Tidioute: A Town With an Edge" It is a detailed account of the five cutlery companies that were located there at one time or another from 1896-1932 and beyond. It will hopefully be out this June, It was a real labor of love and answers a lot of question about these old companies and acutally opens up a whole lot more questions that I hope to be able to answer someday. It will be available on this site as well as Knife World and several other distributors. Thanks for asking as it will be great fun to hear what others have to say when they find out that the OLD Tidioute knife that have was acutally made in 1965, from various parts. DO I HAVE YOUR INTEREST YET?

site, when the books are available?

I actually had to look awhile to find the bird house and then I saw the book on it ..... and well the rest is history! I think of myself as a comedian..... my wife thinks of me as a smart a?? Man this thread is old so I figured I’d resurrect it! Here is the first knife I bought when I started buying knives to collect. Union Razor Co, Tidioute Pa. I know it’s beat up and used with cracks in the bone but it’s a knife I’ll cherish always. I was at an auction in Greene NY with a lady I was dating, and eventually married, trying to buy some old knives that were in the auction. I lost the auction on it. It sold for 50! The lady said I should offer the high bidder 55 and I did and he sold it to me. Had it ever since!

She is a keeper!
(It sounds like that statement applies both to the knife, and the lady who gave such great advice!)

I'd love to find a Tidioute Union Razor knife to go with my box...if anyone has any leads. Let me know. Thanks!

The Union Razor Co.was sold to a barbers supply company in Iowa. The barber supply had been a long time customer of Union Razor buying privately branded straight razors. All of the Union Razor’s existing stock, tools and tang stamps were shipped to Iowa where they languished until 1982. I’m not sure if the barber supply company ever used any of Union’s brand names or tooling. In 1982, I bought the entirety of the tooling, tang stamps, and a ton of old paper.
