Ulster Jack salvage

I would like to say I restored this knife, but I think the best that can be said, given the abysmal condition of the knife, is that I succeeded in salvaging the knife.

This knife has been in pieces in my shop of so long that I forgot when I did get it, a few years ago at least.
I have a love for old ebony jacks and but wood on these handles was cracked and faded. The pen blade was snapped off and lost as I recall. All I had to work with was a blade, spring and the liners & bolsters with the old broken faded wood handles.

I put new ebony handles on the knife and inlaid the shield in the ebony.
Then I reassembled the knife after smoothing down the blade & spring best I could without regrinding them.

It will win no beauty contests, but it was such a solid old knife I couldn't bring myself to let it continue to lay in a box in pieces.

In spite of the pits in the blade, it will still take a nice edge. ::tu::

Other than you telling me that it has been reworked, it looks pretty original to me.

Looks like a good honest user! Nice work there, throw it in your pocket and use the heck out of it...

Nice save Dale. I too love those old ebony jacks. Nothing quite like them when it comes to "old school". ::tu::

Thanks guys for your affirmative comments. ::tu::

It was such an "honest user" (as Glenn said) and such a classic pattern that I could not bear to just watch it rust away.
That & I always appreciated ebony jacks. Rob was right, it is "hard to beat the classic look of black and silver" in a jack knife.

Glad y'all enjoyed lookin' at it.
