I was admiring this German Eye Carl Schlieper "RAZ" blade knife and noticed the tang was stamped
Carl Schlieper Solingen, Alemania.
Does anyone recongnize Alemania ??? I have never seen that before..

Hi Sunburst. Yes... Alemania is Spanish for Germany. I have a few Boker knives marked with Alemania. These were made in Argentina. I don't know if there is a connection between Schlieper and Boker though.

Ok now it rings a bell

now I remember folks talking about Alemania a while back and I believe it involved Boker. Thank you SK your knowledge is most appreciated

.
Knowing this makes me ask another question, why would they spell Germany in spanish on a knife made in Solingen ???
Thanks again,
Sunburst

Good question. It was not made in Solingen. It was produced in a Spanish speaking country.

IMO this knife is dubious. The fan or whatever that is on the back of the tang does not look like the Schlieper eye trademark. 'Cast Steel' was used a 150 years ago. A nonsensical stamp on a '1950s' knife.

The "EYE" in question
is, I believe, a FAN. This mark was also used by Schlieper (Levine's, if you have it). The razor can be opened like a one-armed man's blade...by hooking it on the leg or pocket...if you're careful.
JMO, of course.

Thanks for the correction on the 'fan' mark El Lobo. Perhaps dubious was the incorrect term. It may be a genuine Schlieper produced in a Spanish speaking country.

Well thanks to you smart fellers I have learned something today. I had no idea that Eye brand had farmed out their knives to Spain or a spanish speaking country in the past. Interesting..
Thank you,

Pure hypote...hyepot...hipoth...er, guesswork here...
Perhaps the knife was made on contract... by Boker...for Schlieper, and that's why it's a FAN brand versus an EYE??
Just a WAG.

O so this is an illegal alien then. She jumped over the borders?
This too made me think...
When I was in Germany and looked at a local map it was called Deutschland but yet we never called it that. All other countries I was in called it Deutschland too. why is this ???

It couls have been made in Solingen...but made for sale in a variety of other countrieds that included Spanish speaking countries - that is the story IIRC of the many Bokers that are marked ALEMENIA.
