All About Pocket Knives

I'm starting to get caught up on some projects. Here is one I just finished. It's a lockback, but the cool thing is the release on it. You flip the lever up and use it push the spring out and release the blade. The owner wanted to do alot to it. He wanted new brass liners, NS bolsters, new scales, and a NS lever. I also ended up replacing the end piece, which the spring pushes against. It was actually wood, but I made a new one out of NS. The bone is Catalina Amber.

This one was a bit challenging, as the pivot hole had to be perfectly placed, otherwise the spring would not lock up properly or the spring would not sit flush either. Had a couple trial holes before I got it right. The knife is slimmer now, but substantially beefier now.

Definitely one of the more interesting ones I have worked on.

Yeah, basically the only original parts are the blade and the spring...thanks.

I didn't even think of that. I used the old parts as patterns for the new parts, and shipped everything back to the owner after...

Yah, I did that on a few too, Glenn. Kinda gotten into the habit now of making a set of templates for any of the "cool" ones that I work on. I use 1/8" plexiglas and make a working model of them. The plexiglas even makes a functioning backspring.

A project like that is really a challenge, but also a good learning experience.
I re-worked a shell handle Colonial, about the second knife I repaired.
I ended up using only the spring and blade of the original knife.
Like you I had a couple adjustments, but it came out nice.

Speaking of patterns; I am trying to develop a habit of tracing each knife I have apart onto graph paper and noting original pin sized used as a reference so I don't confuse the sizes between knives when I have several works in progress at a time.
It has been helpful on several occasions. Since I traced the liners to the paper, I guess that could be useful as a pattern, at least for the liners & bolsters.
