All About Pocket Knives

Not sure what I have here. Curious about the Wings and Crown (?) on Tang Stamp.

Nice knife! Haven't seen that winged emblem on a Henckels knife before.Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the brand will chime in.Six blade utility knives are always nice and that one looks to be in great shape.

That crown mark is associated with Friedrich Olbertz Germany.

You know. I think I had one of those when I was a kid.

This model 1160 was offered by Henckels in the 1930s and also after the war but discontinued in the mid 1950s. It was only offered though with a spear point main blade both pre and post war, so either this was a contract model through Friedrich Olbertz as "knives-are-quiet" had mentioned, or the main blade has been replaced. Nice knife either way.

Mason's comment regarding the possibility of a main blade replacement is interesting, because everything 'snaps shut' when closed, except the main blade and the one next to it, and the handle is a slight bit loose on the main blade side, and the main the main blade is the only one without the Henckels name or stamp of the twins on it (aside from the cork screw and the pointed blade (both on the bottom of the knife).

I traded a kid from Germany a bicycle seat for it in the 1970s. He got it from his father, who was said to have been in WW II.

The main blade stamped with Wings and Crown has 'Made in Germany' on the back side. The blade may be original to the knife though (see new photo), because the notches used to open the blade lines up well with the blade beside it, when closed. So, hummm, I'm thinking it was a contract model through Friedrich Olbertz, as "knives-are-quiet" has mentioned (with perhaps a main blade change).

* I just noticed that my leather punch does not have the nice fingernail slot in it, as shown on the photo Mason provided.

Eather way you have a great knife.

I don't think it's a contract knife but more of a replaced blade.

Either way...it's a nice knife.

The blade has not been replaced.

That is the logo used on Hardin knives.

It was a wholesale co. that had knives made on contract for them in Germany

Is that the same mark used on Hugo Koller knives? or is it just very similar?
