Are the bolsters brass? I have a Schrade Walden carpenter whittler that the bolster turns brassy looking after it lays for a period of time. It will polish back to normal with little work. I was told that the content of the nickle silver was some different on some of the Schrades.

Hi LC,

I can't really "Date" either knife, but I can say your knife looks like a Ducks Unlimited 296 Trapper...minus the etch and shield. They were still being made up until the closing.

The other knife looks like a TN River Trapper or a WC296, sold at WalMart and other stores, with nickel silver bolsters, but the handles look more like DU handle material, rather than the Crimson Birch usually found on these.

When did you folks acquire these? If recently, they could be parts knives, finished up out of the many truckloads of "work in progress" parts and knives.

The top knife is a WC296...

Maybe someone else can add a bit.

You did it again EL. I have seen many on E-Bay about a year ago.
All sold with out boxes or white boxes with out the DUCK.
