All About Pocket Knives

six of my seven assuie pups have been sold, so i treated myself to this near mint barehead catt. it doesn't have a pattern number, and i can't find it in any books i have. it didn't come cheap, but i trust its seller and authenticity, even though i have been hoodwinked in the past
can anyone here please shed some insight for me on this beauty? excellent snap on the full and half stops with no wobble at all.
i know i have placed the perverbial cart before the horse, but unfortunately that has always been my nature. so, please make me feel good about this purchase thank you

WOW! I'm not the guy to get any expert advice from so I won't offer any ... But, WOW! Looks good to me and Tater likes it too... Let's see, it has Ebony,a big nice propeller shield,is a 2 blade, an easy open,Great Stamps,Famous maker, is a barehead jack knife AND She has some very VERY very SEXY SWEDGE ... If it turns out to be a counterfeit and you are above owning it please do not worry. I am not above owning it and would give it a good home hehe very nice knife Sir.

thanks guys. its is always nice to hear some very very positive responses like those. i love this knife and everthing about, but i am always unsure when it cannot be documented.

Someone who knows Catt's will come along with the expert advice but I don't think it would make any sense for it to not be legit and I'm guessing you felt the same otherwise you wouldn't have taken the plunge... I'm just happy if I can read half of the company name on mine Thats why I just call them Catt's ...

No expert, especially on Catts, but that nail nick is pretty typical of Cattaraugus, the way it is cut RIGHT underneath the swedge. I've noticed that many Catts don't have a pattern number stamped (usually, if it is, it's stamped on the secondary) so that's not a concern.

From my limited experience everything looks good.

No pattern number on the one and only I have also.
It's not an easy opener, has long pulls, different shield and looks to be all steel except for the two brass liner pins.
This is a large knife also, 3 5/8 inches closed.
I always wondered why no pattern number myself?
My knife shows age so if it is a fake then it was faked many years ago.
I was told before that this knife may have been made of left over stock parts just before the company closed it's doors.
They just threw together knives to get rid of everything.
Could be the reason for no pattern number?

k-a-q, that is a nice pocket worn jack. thats the word i have heard to about being assembled just before they closed their doors. at least the f&f is superb, no short cuts there
i also have catt, king of the woods, with no pattern number. but the difference between that knife and this one, besides the obvious, is that i know what the big knife is and i have seen them in books.
although this one is definately a keeper for me, it isn't in any books i have.

Put that knife in the premium room. Here is the closest Cattaraugus I have to your easy opener and with the shield on yours I think you have a very old piece authentic all the way.

I'm agreeing with Msteele Also Catt used the same pattern numbers on some that had slight changes made in subsequent years
