All About Pocket Knives

I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to knives. This one was worth the 20$ gamble I thought picking today.Did I do good? Could any experts educate me on this knife? Any info would be presheated
All info I got is. Stamped on straight blade New York USA Knife Co and on the main blade Hammer brand. Stag handles I do believe.

Looks like a ""Bear & Son""--with only a single pin for the scales ????That ""razor pattern"" suggest ""Parker"" era knife also ???? maybe some knid of anniversary edition for New York Knife ??__better pics of the tang stamp may help,get you some answers ???___welcome & good luck_ Monk

I thought Parker as soon as I saw it also.

When Schrade went bankrupt, Stuart A. Taylor purchased the intelectual property held by the company, including various brands that Schrade owned. One of those brands was "Hammer Brand" and another was "New York Knife Co.". Both of those brands were previously associated many years ago when the original New York Knife Co. produced Hammer Brand knives. After New York Knife Co. went out of business, the Imperial Schrade Corp. (parent company of Schrade) acquired the rights to use the "Hammer Brand" name and used it on many shell handled knives.
Fast forward to the present and Stuart A. Taylor owns the brands and the right to use them on whatever knives he chooses. The knife in question has the "look" of one made by Bear and Sons cutlery, as others have already pointed out. I do know that during the first year after acquiring the Schrade intellectual property, Taylor had some knives made by Bear and Sons and the pattern shown was one of them. I do not, however recall seeing it with the NYK Co. or Hammer Brand markings at that time, nor do I recall it being sold in stag. If my memory serves me correctly (which is a crapshoot these days) the ones I recall seeing were marked "Walden Knife Co." and had amber brown bone handles.
Now that I've told you way more than you likely ever wanted to know, let me say I think you gave a fair price for the knife. Pretty much any USA made stag handled knife in decent condition is worth what you gave or more.

Thanks so much peeps. After hearing all the good info. I have decided that if bear n.son made it. I think they should hafe to out a stamp on it. That only seems fair. Thanks again for the knowledge. If I ever parted with it (too late I'm already attached and priced in right) I would hate to tell the person it was something it wasn't. I'm gonna stick this one right next to my sweet pre 70's Case XX Red Bone 6347 HP 4$ yard sale find.

That has been a practice in the knife world since way before our time.Camillus made knives with well over 300 tang stamps for other such companies as Sears,Kent just to name a couple.I'm sure that one off this guys that no somethin about the older companies could name 100s more for us.
