The Red Ryder knife was offered by Smoky Mountain Knife Works. It was targeted to be a youngster's first knife. Each knife was gift boxed with a detailed brochure that contained information on how to use a knife, knife construction and sharpening.

Red Ryder was the most popular comic book between 1948 and 1964. And to really outfit your kid in style, he not only needed the knife shown above, but the famous Daisy Air Rifle of the same name.

Red Ryder also 'served' during WW2. Kids could join the Red Ryder Victory Patrol and learn how to support the war effort.

A comic Icon, the namesake of knives and guns and teaching youngsters to use each responsibly, a war veteran and old west hero, I think we can call Red a real patriot.

Anyone ever see a Little Beaver knife?
