All About Pocket Knives

anyone have a clue to the maker of this knife. it came from a person in england some time back. it is a big boy at 4 3/4" closed.
this thing is a bear trap to open, nevermind trying to open it where the nail nick is placed, and it snaps so hard that you need to count your fingers after you close it. all that is stamped on the tang is g. buck. i highly doubt it has anything to do with the buck family we all know. thanks for any imput that you might have.

Can't help you with anything, but I must say that that is one groovy knife. An EO Gunstock. Far out You don't get much leverage on the blade with the nick so far to the rear.

No information on "G. Buck" however there is another example of this knife shown and discussed on "Blade Forums". Yours appears to be a post WW II model and styled after the English SOE military (tire slasher type) knives as shown in "British and Commonwealth Military Knives" by Ron Flook.

i have taken this to a few knife shows and no one was able to identify it. i was told that it could very well be a britsih lunchbox knife, circa 1940's and g. buck was the worker/makers name. maybe bob, ironhoarder will pop in with his insight.

The Buck family in the UK used to own hardware stores that at one time made their own pocket knives and other tools to sell. It's possible that it came from one of them.

thanks bob. i figured you could add some good insight. that sounds like a probable maker. i am not sure if the hanldes are bone or some sort of delrin. there are saw cut marks on parts of the scales but not uniform as delrin usually is. it looks like bone with nice nonslip jigging.

Do you suppose the EO notch is an after thought? The edge of the scale is beveled very nicely by the nail nick but at the EO cut out, it seems to have no bevel. I would think the bevel should follow through for looks and function . Nice looking knife either way. Treefarmer

After looking again I've noticed that the blade doesn't have a full polish and the pins are steel while the bolsters are nickle. The stamp is also sharp and not black as well as being a modern type face. I'm starting to lean towards recent assembly from vintage parts. There are still a lot floating around. Those are bone scales. It's a great knife regardless of it's provenance.

the easy open isn't a customized addition. but like i said earlier, it really isn't an easy open knife. you need a stong viselike finger grip when using that eo notch. the back spring is awesome.
as mason has pointed out, it is the same factory knife that has been posted and pictured on the blade froums site last year. only mine is unused, that one has been used. they haven't come up with a difinitive answer either.
and since there is at least another one of these out there, it rules out the lunchbox suggestion.
