All About Pocket Knives

I have, just in the last 2 or three months, found how enjoyable mechanical whimsies are to whittle.I haven't took on a caricature yet but would some day like to be able to make some of the rely nice stuff that I have saw on this thread.To git started I have been working on chains and other doodads, hear are a couple I have did for my kids to play with.

I like this old Case I have, it is a 1970 10 dot 6217 I do most of my whittling with it.I have started to use a couple Bears@Son that I have for fine work.The Bear congress has very thin pen blades that are perfect to separate links and the Barlow has a nice point on the pen blade to stop cut with.Hear are some pics the Bears have been sharpen and used a lot since I took the pics but both have held up very well.
I do plan on a nice flex cut or something similar soon.

I also used a few other tools on some of the items I made,hear they are to.

Phillip, that's just grand! Where did you get your patterns from? Or did you just dream them up? I guess what I'm asking is where would a complete ant total know nothing like me go to read up on this? Oh, I'm assuming pine?

Hello Wade, how are you?
I like pine" white pine"I don't know much about wood at all but pine seems to take a blade well.I have read that basse wood is rely good to start with and can be bought offline easy.I use what ever wood I can find lying around.Stay away from yellow pine,I can say that from experience.
I got my ideas for the patterns used hear out of books.You can go to Amazon and find books for a few dollars to start you out,and once you see what is possible you will probably have some of your own ideas.I like to make what my kids and wife like"toys and gifts"
I'm new to whittling, so I cant give you much more than that, but like I have said I would start with a good book and some white pine and a good sharp knife.I'm sure ,like me, Wade you will find a lot of joy in some of the stuff you can make out of wood with just a good ole pocketknife.
