I have one and can't tell if its brass or plated I noticed it was getting some black spots on the brass /gold part of the spine of the liner and didn't know if it was tarnish or the plating
coming off

I never heard of plated liners on a case.
I'll assume 77 means 1977 since i haven't seen a 77 pattern.
1977 would be either brass or nickel silver and which
could vary depending on which pattern you have.
One way to check would be to polish the liner spine
to see if spots diminish or clear up completely which
indicates brass. If the spots get larger or elongate
sounds like the plating is coming off.
Hate when that happens don't you?
Hope this helps 8)

I have never heard of plated liners on ANY knife. Maybe I can learn something here; Can anyone give an example? Thanks!
