All About Pocket Knives

I decided to do a quick project today, re-handle a 3OT.
I will show a series of pics and that pretty well explains the whole thing. Sorry but most of the pics were taken in my shop and the lighting isn't the best there. The handles are Water Buffalo horn, jigged to look like Impala.

I bought it jigged from some seller on ebay last year. This is the second knife I have done in this stuff. I did a 152OT in it also. It is fairly easy to work with.

Speaking of jigging, do you jig your own horn or bone?
I have some smooth white bone for handles but I would like to jig it & also dye it.

Do you, or anyone here have tips on jigging & dying bone?

I too would like to hear some good jigging and bone dying advice. I haven't tried it myself yet, but would like to.

For some people it's not enough to just hunt, buy, hold, preserve, store, get as much history they can.
They have to take their cloths off and redress them ladies.
I sure do love watching them in the processes...

Many of you do not know most of us see and learn so much by your step by step photos and words. I thank you all so much for teaching us that there is a lot of love in the knife workings. I bet that's where the quality comes in to play...

I have the Personalizer I got from Jantz, IIRC. It isn't the most expensive one, but cost in the neighborhood of $120.

I like it, & haven't had any problems with it, as long as I use the custom made stencils. The paper ones you make yourself don't work as well. The lines are not as crisp.

hey dale, i'm practicing on wood and bone. i think the key is drawing a grid and taking your time to stay on your marks. i have experimented with different dyes with mixed results. i am getting some potassium permagante to try.

i do like your etch.

Where do you get potassium permagante, & what color does it dye the bone?

I have heard that leather dye will work also. Has anyone tried it? Did it work?

some feed stores carry it, drug stores and a couple of on line places carry it. 2# costs about $15. enought to dye a couple o' cows.

i've used leather dye with mixed results. did'nt take evenly on all the pieces. oils maybe? wash with alcahol first?
