All About Pocket Knives

There are several knives that I consider "grail" or dream knives. This is probably one of my favorites all handmade without any CNC machines. Sal Manaro is one of my favorite knife makers and his attention to detail is incredible. If you have a favorite knife traditional, tactical or fixed blade what would it be? I had to borrow photos for this.

Mine would be T. Bose lockback whittler. Here is a photo I obviously borrowed I will settle even with the Case-Bose collaboration lockback whittler, but it is hard to find.

For me it's a toss-up so I guess I have two grail knives, neither one of which I'll ever be able to afford. Although the Queen might be more within reach than the Ohta. (If you can find one)

Jerry I wanted one of those Queen Black Lip Pearl knives ever since they first came out. I've only seen 1-2 on eBay in the past few years. Beautiful knife!

I saw one for sale last year or maybe it was the year before but I didn't have $300. In the pictures, it's just a beautiful knife. Makes me wonder what it's like in the hand. Sometimes the pictures don't match reality.

IM, I like your taste in knives. The CASE TESTED 5171L is the only knife I have targeted this year due to sheer cost. I know someone who has one, just waiting for the cost to go down as he has sat on it for 6 months. Maybe I won't get it, who knows.

Here is my targeted knives list from another post. All in near mint condition if possible.

1. CASE TESTED 5171L "Lever Lock" or a 6171L, 5161L or 6161L in TESTED era. Want a CASE TESTED lever lock real bad. Good action on the lever opening is a must.
2. CASE TESTED 6111-1/2L SAB Green Bone
3. CASE XX 6111-1/2L SAB Green Bone
4. CASE XX 6111-1/2L SAB Red Bone
5. CASE XX USA 61111-1/2L SAB. Extra "1" in the model stamp factory error.
6. CASE 1977' 5111-1/2LSSP "Blue Scroll". Engraved bolster only as I have the non engraved already.

The ultimate "Holy Grail" knife for my "knife collecting lifetime", a 1970' CASE 10 dot Stag Cheetah Proto with Saber Blade. 1 of 4 made. I already have the 1970' CASE 10 dot Cheetah Proto with the hollow ground blade, 1 of 24 made. That was my previous "Holy Grail" knife. I teased Wishful with it the other day for you.
Backup "Holy Grail", a 1970' CASE 10 dot Ivory handled Cheetah Proto with hollow ground blade, 1 of 4 made.

As you can tell, I am a CASE 11-1/2 and Cheetah collector.

In all seriousness, maybe a longshot based on rarity, I may be able to assist you or Wishful in finding a 1970' CASE 10 dot Cheetah Proto with the hollow ground blade if either of you are seriously interested. I got lucky and found one with 2 phone calls and a large chunk of cash. Let me know.

I sort of break this down into two categories: "working" grail knives, and "collecting" grail knives.

I'd love to have a Western "dynamite knife" for the collection, almost more than I'd want a bunch of early Western catalogs and the like.

But for "working knives"--knives to be carried and used--I want a Remington 1173 and a Remington 1306.

Wow, I did not know that I had a "grail" knife in mind until I saw this. What a beauty. I am a big Wharnie fan. Thanks for making me drool all over my keyboard.

Matched pair of CASE tested greenbone NEW 6345s with long pulls. One with clip (3/4) and one with spear. Well.... I know that ain't gonna happen EVER or even half such a thing, so I will go with NIB 1959 Schrade bone 8OT stockman. (Pretty li'l Grail, pleeease do not fail).

I'm lucky. When I started collecting knives the pattern I wanted to collect was the folding Bowie. After I had several of them mostly German I thought I'd love to have a CASE folding Bowie if they ever made one. Way back when I got my first Seargents book I saw the Case 551. Well this started my search. I woud find them but I just couldn't see blowing so much money on one knife. Finally one day I was searching Ebay for anything stag and I ran accrosed a 551 with a Best Offer option. I sent in an offer that I thought would be turned down but it was all I could muster up. To my shock the seller accepted my offer so now I have "MY Holy Grail" plus it even had a sheath! Check it out.

Back in July, 2011 I answered with pics of my 551 then went on to say a 5171 is my new Holy Grail knife but I'd like to just hold a 5172 Zipper. I'll stick with those comments except I know Jerry (zp4ja) will beat me to the 5171 I'm sure he's more ready than I am

I guess my tastes are rather simple. I would love to own one of the Ulsters that were issued to the 10th Mountain division and the 1st Special Services Force, and a mint Gladstone made Marbles Ideal.
