All About Pocket Knives

I find myself constantly in front of the computer, looking at and for knives! I'm relatively new at knife collecting, but have always had a "thing" for knives my entire life. Lately, it's almost an obsession, and I'm finding myself spending more money that I should on these things....to the point I have to hide the fact from my "significant other". She just wouldn't understand....just like she doesn't understand my fascination with firearms.

I find myself leaning heavily toward slip joint knives. I really like the Remington "Bullet" knives. But, I also have a fondness for Copperheads, Muskrats, Canoes, Saddlehorns, Stockmans, Sowbellies, Trappers, some of the lockbacks and I've recently acquired a liking for the razor trappers.

Does it ever end? Is there a cure? Is there such a thing as "Too many knives..............or should I have more pockets sown into my jeans?

What I probably should do is get a second job!

You don't know it but you have been bitten by the BUG.
I think you will (as many here) let their fascination with firearms a rest.
And go hole hog with your new obsession KNIVES.

Ya know Dewman, I started out collecting firearms. Got to expensive. Went to knives. Probably had 50-60 quality knives. Sold them all to excel in one area of knife collecting. Then I got into bottles because I was lucky enough to dig some very high end bottles Probably got close to $10,000 worth of bottles that I didn't pay a penny for! Dug them all out of the ground!! Now I spend all my time in front of this forum looking at my true love. Knives. Bottles are right there beside the knives but the thing is.... It's a love. It's a great hobby, It's your grandkids inheritance. And with the knowledge on this forum, you can't go wrong!! But more importantly, the guys here will drink a beer with ya, swap a story with ya, and maybe even swap a knife with ya. I wish I had found this place awhile ago! Kelley

Great Topic Dewman...I agree with all you have said and also understand this drastic condition of "No Return" virus we suffer as knife collectors. It is what seperates us from other folks who have not caught it yet and keeps us together as we own 1 or 1,000 knives. The excitement of the chase and the satisfaction of holding that prize in your hands after it is done and then sharing it with other fine folks who get excited for you which in turn motivates them to go looking...

I too feel your pain Dewman. Pretty soon you will have to get a P.O.Box just in your name. Then you start hiding the new knives for a few weeks after they arrive. When she asks "when did you get that one" You can say "I've had that knife for a llllong time"
Next it will be your own bank account, so "nobody else" can see how much, when & where the $ goes.
To quote someone else "The sickness only gets worse"

Now the ONLY question you have to ask yourself is... How many knives is enough???

Bryan, you crack me up! I already have the music and rythm in my head! I've been going around huming it for two days now! Will this one qualify? Although a Japanese made Parker, it's a real beauty and quite a handful. Good walk and talk on all five blades. Fit and finish it quite good.

Okay, lets get real here.

If you want to make this marriage and knife collecting work you have to get her in the game.

Sure, it can take a little money away from the important knives in your side of the collection, but you have her looking for you too when you go to shows, antique malls, church sales. etc. (yea I know, the thought brings tears to your eyes)

Here's I did it. How can a girl not like a diamond studded knife?

You can find some bad Cutlery by Parker or Taylor that were made with Japan steel, but you can also find some mighty fine knives for your collection like those sowbelly's or the Pearl Dancers by Taylor and how about this one "Liberty & Union" (Sort of fits in with this Marriage thing) by Parker Cutlery. I have three different themed knives by Parker, and every time someone looks at my collection they pick one of those up first!

Now That's Lots of KNIFE!!
