3 7/8" two blade punch jack Pat. Apr.25-05 pattern # 422438 With a big75 below pattern
number. What does the 75 mean? Pictures not to good best I could get. This is a friends
knife.

Apparently authentic and very nice.

I have never to my knowledge seen a 438 pattern knife. One should assume that the 438 was available as a two blade jack and a three blade stockman.

Suffixes appended to the pattern number on Robeson knives are common.

Unfortunately, no one has ever published data relating what they mean.

Generally, they indicate a departure from the usual pattern configuration.

I have seen "25", "50", "75", "100", "125" "150" and "200".

Also, "1/4", "1/2", "1-4" and "1-2", but I think the second two are meer repeats of the first two.

I suspect your 438 serpentine jack was most often produced with that nice sabre-cut clip and a secondary pen blade.

I'd bet that punch, which looks a little short, was a departure from the norm, hence the "75" suffix to the pattern number.

Thanks Charlie this friend that ownes the knife is crazy
about knife history and could not find anything on the
"75" He likes anything cattle or cowboy related. He is
a real live cowboy, has made his living doing so for
around 40 years.
