All About Pocket Knives

I have no idea what is extending from the opposite side of the blade. Looks like a tongue depressor so I thought Doctor's knife, but have been unable to find any similar type design. Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, sorry but not a doctor's knife. It is a horticultural tool for budding and grafting.

The cream colored part is most likely genuine ivory.

as paladin says it's a horticultural knife made for grafting. the ivory end was used since ivory has little possibility of disease transfer.--HiPower

Thank you all for your expertise. Would anyone care to place an approximate value on the knife? I am not a collector, I found it in a box of junk I bought at a yard sale. Thank you in advance for your help.

The condition on the knife means very much when discussing value and yours is well used. Don't plan on early retirement type funds. I normally use Goins Encyclopedia and I could not find a listing there. I checked in Levines and he shows the company as a wholsaler from about 1910, with no other info. Levines shows it as 'medium' as far as collectibility goes. A collector of San Francisco knives or a collector of that pattern of knife might pay something for it, maybe $20 to $30. About the only way to know for sure is to list it on eBay and see what happens.
