I just finished this one up, a schrade 881Y with pitted and patina'd blades and dirty looking yellow hadles. I cleaned the blades back close to a factory finish and installed some pinless desert ironwood, hope he likes it

You cleaned the blades back close to a factory finish.

Very good job I will add. Even the spring is clean.

Looks great MM...I'm always amazed at how good of a fit you can get between the new scales and the bolsters.

Do you reprofile the bolsters so that the end that mates with the scale is perpendicular to the liner?...or do you just keep adjusting the scale so that it fits tight to whatever angle the bolster is at.

great job as always.

Thanks guys.

Dill, if the bolsters are angled (just the way they made them) I leave them be and fit the scales to the bolsters.

A problem you encounter with alot of plastic handled knives, is the bolsters are roughly finished on the end, this makes fitting new scales very hard, whereas with plastic hnadles they can just heat them and press them in place to mold around the imperfections. In this case I usually true the end of the bolster up so it is at a 90 degree angle with the liner. I have had to do this on several occasions.
