All About Pocket Knives

There really is "nothing new under the sun". The biggest difference I see between what went on then and what is happening today is that now they don't bother to put another stamp on, they just erase the one that is "wash etched" on or stickered on, and of course now days the cheap imports are coming in from China and Pakistan, not Germany.

Interesting article. Looks like the reputation of some of our respected old knife names may have a little tarnish around the edges.

I stole that from one of the razor historians over at another site. Martin has VOLUMNS of stuff like that and when he posts something that will overlap, I steal it and share it over here. LOL

I'm still processing oxygen and stirring hate and discontent about the inter-web. :p

Been having WAY too much fun with the damn razors I've started messing with. Got about 15 big old Sheffields and couple of American razors I'm using to shave with now and about 40 more in various states of repair and disrepair that will eventually be good users.

Still got a herd of PK's wrapped up in the roll but the razors are getting all the love at the moment.

Been messing with a few EVIL rifles too, wish I'd bought more of the stuff they're talking about banning before the feeding frenzy started. I saw this latest push coming but I didn't see coming what that POS kid did up in CN coming. It's a sad time all around.

Good to see all the old hands are still hanging here. You boys have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and pray for our country.

I love this sort of thing. I used part of this letter for an article I did for KWM a couple years ago on the Tariffs and the affect it had on our vintage knives. Of course they weren't so vintage back then. So few understand what a huge impact the tariffs had on the industry not only in the USA, but England and Germany as well. The latest issue of KWM speaks about George Korn of Little Valley NY fame and how he didn't want the tariff. He imported alot of cutlery and it hurt him. Bradley of Walden was instrumental in getting it implemented, in fact they erected statue of the McKinley in the town in honor of his work in getting the tougher Tariffs in place.

Makes a nice historic road trip to a VERY important cutlery town.

Once in a while historical buisiness info pops up like this and its real interesting.Makes me think of what iv'e heard called "ghost" companies...person makes and sells a"high end" product that will sell well because of the companies reputation,but when a more moderately priced similar or the the same type product hits the market and does well or takes from his market, the high end guy will cover this by selling his product under a different label at a reduced price,contract another company to make a similar product with a diifferent name(to their specifications)also at a reduced price.
BTW Will,love all the stuff you post on facebook,just not really into the "like" thing.

I have not a dollar of interest in any manufacturing industry; but in my hometown of Walden, N.Y. are three manufacturing plants, producing about 50 percent of the American output of pen and pocket knives. The people of my town depend on this industry, and I am deeply concerned for the welfare of these pocketknife operatives, whose highly skilled trade will be discredited and probably ruined if this nefarious evasion of the true intent of section 8 is permitted to continue. This Thomas Bradley guy seems to be a well informed "Good Samaritan" with "no interest in any manufacturing co", but is more concerned with the welfare of his people
