All About Pocket Knives

Could any one tell me if this knife has a bone handle.I have contacted the seller and ask if it was bone or delrin.The answer I got back it looks like bone.So I sent a photo of the tang stamp for the bone knife.The answer I got back.
The photo on my listing is the actual knife I am selling.

I would say no. Taking into consideration, the hafting and the color of the handles, I'm about 99% certain the handles are Delrin. The pictures suck a lot but IMO it's a long line and it would be very unusual to run into a long line with bone handles. Another thing to consider, if you find one with bone handles, you are almost certain to find one that has a saber grind (oops, I'm sorry, you're Australian. Make that sabre grind. ) on both sides.

Thanks for the answer jerry. Even though I live in Australia when I spell sabre the British way it come up as a spelling error because the program when are working on is USA.

Of the ones I've seen, ALL had pinned-on handles. Good eye John. I didn't even think to look for the handle pins.

100% sure now that's Delrin. And in fact, it's probably not even a long line but one from the 1990s or maybe even 2000s. Right now, I don't remember when they stopped pinning the Delrin handles but it was late.

......i think i remember reading in one of the posts in the camillus forum that maybe the first delrin handles were pinned at the bolsters, but none of mine are like that, all have the molded delrin prongs that go thru the liners and are either heated and crushed flat on the inside of the liner or are just crushed flat, i'm not sure how they did that...........maybe dale can answer this one!!!...........

I'm afraid I can't answer that absolutely John.
I just looked through all of my 72s and the only one that isn't pinned to the newer one with the acrylic shield. It does appear that a piece of the Delrin handles was fitted through holes in the liner and then melted into position. But all the rest of my 72s have pinned handles.

This just applies to the black synthetic handles and the brown Delrin handles. The best I can tell from looking at the catalogs, the last year they pinned the handles was 1976.

All years with Yellow Delrin handles were pinned.

None of the Boy Scout handles were pinned. (no bone handles on Scout 1047s {72s})

The few special runs made with black bone handles in the '90s were of course pinned as were the wood handles of the #5 pattern.

And the less I want to know. This collecting crap is too hard on my brain. I'm going back to being an accumulator and just buying newer stuff and what I like. Life was easier then, as long as I stayed away from Case.

I agree Jerry, especially about the Case part!

Did you notice Dale? I didn't stay completely away from Case.

But Jerry, that is to be expected.

I have a 8 or 10 Case knives I have bought because I like them, the same as any other random brand that makes a knife or two that I like.
The difference is that I bought them because I like them to use, not to collect!

Yep! That's what we accumulators do. We buy what we like, regardless of brand.
