All About Pocket Knives

This group is great and I enjoy the knowledge and sharing of information you so generously give to all. I have been posting a little lately and have not taken the opportunity to introduce myself to the group. My name is Ron, and I live in the Upper Cumberland Mountains of Tennessee around Dale Hollow Lake, home of the World Record Small Mouth Bass. I retired a couple of years ago and moved here from Atlanta to enjoy the Mountain Views, fishing, and knife collecting. I collect Case and all other makers of Saddlehorn patterns, Schatt & Morgan's all patterns, Bob Cargill's Cripple Creek knives, KaBar, Parker Cutlery, a few fixed blades, and various other knives that make sense to me. I have even collected a little nonsense knives now and then and put a couple of tomahawks in my collection in a weak moment. I have a wife that is crazy about me and buys me a knife once in a while (that’s how I got my first case of the Schatt’s) and she even brought me 3 new fishing lures home yesterday. My GOD good women are wonderful thing. Especially red heads! Most all of my knives are minty, I like the BLING as kids would say today. Currently I have about 650 knives in my collection with the Schatt’s and Case leading the totals. My wife has about 30 in her little collection of leg knives.

I go by the handle of the buzzard’s loft, because that’s the view I have from my perch here in the mountains. I’m two time Nam vet, married to the greatest wife a man could ask for, we have 8 children between us, and next month we will be lucky enough to add our 7th grandchild to our clan. I have collected something all of my life, but nothing that gives me the joy and pain those knives have.

Hope to contribute to the boards as I can, and I am lucky enough to have already benefited from the generosity of a board member here. I appreciate what you all give back to the hobby.

Welcome aboard Ron, glad to have you here. I can see you have a beautiful place to perch. Ah, the life, would love to spend my time fishing, with knives, and of course my lovely wife. I'd love to wake up to that view every morning.


AHEM, Ken, you keep that up and you will get your first knife from wifey between your shoulder blades. Come to think of it, I am missing a 4 1/4 inch 5 blade stockman with abalone handles, 1 of a kind. Hmmn, I got an email.......from Normal, Ill. ..................seems it was about how long a blade does it take to kill. Now this knife, one that would do the job goes on a walk-about. Connection..........Hmmn

Welcome Ron, please excuse the Normal banter that makes this place so friendly. I look forward to seeing some of your knives as well as some nice smallmouth pictures. Dang I love to fish, hunt, dive, and make knives. I think my abalone card and fishing license was about $70.00 here in California.

Your picture reminds me of the mountains where I grew up in Southern Oregon, except there we had mostly evergreens above 4000 ft. elevation.

I hope you enjoy the forum and all the good natured bantering that goes back & forth. I have participated in several forums but consider this one to be Home! There are a great bunch of people here who freely share their knowledge, and between everyone here there is a lot of knowledge.

Hey All,

I really appreciate the warm greetings. Some of you may be a little too warm about my red head. It took me 50 years to find her and about 3 minutes to tell her I was in love.

Fishing was great today, I have been out four of the last ten days. The first two days there were no fish to be had. The third day I caught two nice Smallies, today my fishing partner caught one and I had the biggest dam fish in the lake kick my butt all the way to the boat. I saw it three times but it was a better man than me today and spit my lure right back in my face as it came to the boat. My god I love a good fight as much as I like putting them in the boat.

Knives oh yea, I have some, um here's a knife, my wife, a fish, and another knife. It's a knife Sandwich.

very nice knives. but you better watch out for ken(justold52). i think he likes redheads. whens the fish fry?

Well it looks like I missed the offical welcome party but since you have proclaimed a case of the Schatt's all is well.. I agree with SFC that is one fantastic looking engraved Pearl and I mean FanTastic...

I could almost forget about everything else after looking at that beauty... Then again it looks like beauty is something you are accustomed to after seeing your Buzzards loft and wonderful wife.

Sorry it took so long to reply but we had the the grandkids for the last four days and we spoiled them rotten and broke all the rules their parents set. JUST LIKE THEIR DAD DID MINE!!! LOL

The pearl case was bought like that. I had purchased a very unusual engraved hobo knife off eBay late last summer. I asked the seller about the engraving and if he had any others or saddlehorns for sale. He said that he had a few other knives for sale but had not decided if he wanted to sell any. I asked about the engraver and if he would do some custom work and he said the gentleman was retired and did not take orders. If he had time he did a knife but did not want to take a custom order. Just after Christmas the Seller contacted me again to tell me that he had decided to sell his saddlehorn that was engraved and asked if I was interested. As you can see from the picture, it was one of those I couldn't live without.
Too bring this long story to a close, no I cannot give you a name of the engraver. I know he is in Canada, as is the Seller. He knows I am interested in more engravings and if he comes up with any I will surely let everyone know they are available.

Welcome and WOW!!! You sure have it goin on there. The pics of the knives are great, the pics of everything is great. So good to see a good american enjoying his bounty.....you've earned that in my opinion. I too thank you for serving this good country. Can't wait to see some more pics of yours.
