All About Pocket Knives

Ok, I convinced my boss to give me tomorrow off from work. Hell, it's slow and I have seniority. Anyways, I love to hit estate sales for old tools and of my new-found addiction to knife collecting. That being said I need your guys opinions on whether or not it is worth me getting up at 0-dark thirty and driving 25 miles at a chance at being first inline for these knives. The picture is from the estate sale business holding the sale.

Is it worth the drive?

According to the website, the pocket knives on the left are all WWII era US Navy survival pocket knives. There is also a Marttiini, Finland Hand Ground Stainless Knife with Leather sheath.

One last picture as well. A complete Sheffield Carving Set.

I think the 7 on the left (Colonials), are the only thing there worth anything. Most of those 7 look kinda rough, but can still be worth $50 or so for each one if they work and arent broke. More if they are nice, less if they are parts knives.
The Martiini fillet knife is ok , but not worth much more than $10.
If you are up for a road trip and can get them cheap, what the heck!

Typed too slow. I agree with the above.

The only things I see worth getting up for are the Navey Pilot's survival knives and what looks like a Cattaraugus 225Q sheath knife or similar from WWII.

I have no idea what those several knives would be worth, but if you could get the Navy knives at $10.00 each, or less, you could make a profit.

Leave everything else, including the plastic handled steak & carving knives, there.

Perfect...then I will go. Ive been very lucky so far at these estate sale with regards to pocket knives as I don't think there are too many collectors here in the pacific nw. I think if they are what you say they are, I should be able to pick them up for no more than 5 bucks apiece.

This estate sale will be busy.....apparently they have a LOT of vintage model railroad stuff as well. Hopefully that is what they all will be focusing on.

I would buy every one of those Colonials I could get for $5 each. And maybe the fixed blade in sheath.
Im with Charlie, leave the rest, including the fake stag sheffield carving set.

Ok guys, I went and my god am I glad I did. The lady running the estate sale had the seven survival knives listed at $50 bucks apiece. They all still had good snap and the saw blades are still in good condition. I bought two of them for $75 bucks. I talked to my buddy who has a WAC table and after I clean them up with some mineral oil, We both think he can sell them for $75 apiece. None of the blades look like they have ever been sharpened either. There are no cracks in either of the two handles and the screws in the handles also look original.

However, the real deal wasn't the knife at all. I bought a vintage 1940's XL Hudson Bay Wool blanket Jacket, pea coat style for $45. I dropped that sucker off at the dry cleaners already. That is valued online in several places for $300-400.

Anyways, here is a pic of those knives.

I will. The only knife collectors I run into up here so far are the guys at the gun shows and they focus mainly on hunting knives.

When I was a kid that jacket was called a "Mackinaw"
