That is a great looking knife, but the price tag keeps me from buying one.

Yep the North American Elk Horn is a bit more expensive (material wise) than the Chestnut and bone. FWIW The NA Elk (50 made) is priced lower than the MSRP ($150) of the Chestnut (600 made) & open stock bone (400).

For those who are interested the price of the Cannitler is going up next year, for the second year in a row. In my opinion - it is a knife that is worth every penny of the MSRP, and it's value will only go up. The Cannitler is probably the most difficult knife to execute, skill wise, in the Canal Street line. It is also a remarkable knife, and historically it is a prime example of the evolution of the true split backspring whittler pattern. We, who collect them, all know how much a premium whittler goes for. Well this is a premium whittler! There is no other whittler with a main spear blade like this one has, or with as durable a split backspring design. Buy them while you can.
