Whalers and Marlin Spikes

Just figured I would share a pic of some knives I had out yesterday to clean.

Really liking the marlin spikes and Whalers. I am actually think about selling these knives pictured so I can invest in some other knives. After handling them though, I am having second thoughts as I really like these frames. If I can get what i want out of them i would let them go though.

CASE TESTED 3246R. Brain freeze on my part as I posted topic as a 6246R.

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32240

CASE 1970 10 dot 6246R. I aint gonna call her red bone but pretty bone for sure with a solid red hue.

CASE 1980 10 dot 6246LRSS with Delrin handles. Bail is a lock for the spike on this knife.

CASE "Loom Fixer" 1974 6 dot Pakkawood handles.

CASE XX 1199 SH R with walnut handles and "CASE XX WHALER" heat stamped into the mark side handle.

CASE XX USA 1199 SH R with walnut handles and "CASE XX WHALER" heat stamped into the mark side handle.

Couple of newer CASE lockbacks. Steve's book states they were referred to "Hornets" by some collectors (never heard that till I read it in his book)...

CASE 3 dot 1977 61051 LSSP with glazed finish SS blade and Pakkawood handles with lanyard hole.

CASE 4 dot 1976 61051 LSSP with glazed finish SS blade and Pakkawood handles with lanyard hole.

Found your post on Whalers and thought you may be the resident expert. I stopped in a pawn/antique store a few days ago and found this Whaler. It appears to be a USA (65-69), unless there are some dots hidden under the bolster. All the Whalers I've seen had wood handles and a bail. This one appearas to be smooth bone. Do you know if this is a production knife or a custom? Sorry for the poor pics.

No, not an expert by any stretch. I can't find any knife like this in my books(that doesn't mean much) so I would have to assume it is a custom build. But just an assumption!

Normally scrimshawed CASE knives have white handles, at least the ones I have seen. I believe that the artisan that did the work on knives of this type normally put their initials on their work. Can't tell from the pics, any initials on the handles?

Been admiring these nice Whalers for awhile and keeping my eyes open for one - saw this one pop up late last week in an AAPK store - it arrived today - I'm right pleased with it. OH
