I finished this one for a fella this morning. Fileworked lock bar, bareheaded, with koa scales and my signature-modified clip blade all listed work was done by me. Hope he approves. Pics are bad, sorry

Really nice job. That is a great piece of Koa you had also. Since Koa only grows naturally on the Hawaiin Islands, makes me wonder if it will go the route of desert ironwood. Pieces like that are hard to come by.

thanks guys . I like the koa, pretty hard and burns easily, yet is semi porus like some walnut. I wonder what the stuff would look like stabalized? This koa was sent in a box of wood from a friend of mine on another forum, had some bubinga, rosewood, and bocote in there too.

There is a guy who sells this stabilized this in another forum. It seems to stabilize qite well. http://www.knifenetwork.com/classifieds ... ls&id=2823

He just sends his stuff out to WSSI, the more you send, the bigger the price break you get. He sells his at a pretty reasonable price compared to some.

That turned out to be one good looking knife! That Koa has a remarkable chatoyance. I've got a chunk of stabilized Koa I picked up at a gun show that looks good but is a lighter shade than what you used.
Koa was a protected plant species in Hawaii about 8-10 years ago. You had to wait for a typhoon to knock trees down feed the demand. I'm hoping they are being raised commercialy today.
