All About Pocket Knives

I usually just stick to collecting mostly Schrades but saw this on Ebay and thought it was pretty cheap for $40. I know this is from the NKCA but have no more info on it than that. It is 1 of 3000 but the NKCA does not list what type of knife was their Knife of the year. They only list the maker (Case) and the amount of knives produced (3000, in this case). If I read the NKCA website collectors knives correctly, that should make it a 1976 model. Was hoping maybe a case collector would be able to shed more light on the subject. Thanks!

You're exactly right. HAd to get my magnifying glasses out. It was listed and advertised as a 10 dot. Hmmm.........the confusing part is the 1 of 3000. The only Case knife issued through the NKCA that had a run of 3000 was the 1976 knife that I can find.

I like pocket knives, but I can't tell a 9 dot from a 2 dot...

How do you know it's a 9 dot?

The tang stamp on Case knives is where the dots are Diligence.

Diligence; "ignorance" this we can fix here just count the dots on the tang.

Do not fell bad the best way to learn is ask like you did.

Hi Diligence. Go back up to the picture of the toothpick. Click on it to enlage it(twice). Look at the stamp on the tang of the knife. Since it has a lightning bolt 's' and 9dots, it was made in 1981. If it had a regular 's' and 9 dots, it would have been made in 1971.

I don't believe that is an annual knife, as the NKCA annuals all seem to be dated on the blade etch, and serialized. I have accumulated 5 different years, and they are all done in that manner.
My guess, since the only quantity of 3,000 is the 1976 Case white Whittler...the 1981 is a Queen stag Cattle...and I don't see a Case Toothpick/Tickler/Powderhorn anywhere, is that the knife was made up for a show, or maybe as some type of incentive for membership. Hopefully someone wiser in the ways of NKCA, or Case collecting can add more for you.
