Hey fellas, I'd like to get some opinions on the difference btw the 42 and the 72.
I've wanted to get a 72 for a while now, but I just cant seem to find them anywhere

! Well, to be more specific, I can't find a clip blade 72 Tidi, with a handle that suits me. (sorta bein picky i guess, but I just aint plum crazy about plum bone)
Anyhow, I do see a lot of 42's on the market right now, which seem to me to be just a beefier version of the 72, and there are still some pretty good handle options out there.
I know some of you folks around here have got a 72 in one hand and a 42 for the other, so I'm just wonderin, how do they compare

, and will a 42 foot the bill without being too much for the pocket?
Thanks guys.

Mike I love the 42,but I've got large hands so its actually more comfortable for me than the 72/73 frame. Don't get me wrong I dig the 72 but the 42 has found a permanent home in my rotation. Marginal difference if any for
me in carry weight and comfort ,stating the obvious here 42 is a bigger knife, slightly. With that said I'm assuming your speaking of the single blade version, the 2 blade is another animal. I would HIGHLY recommend the single blade 42

Heres a pic for "somewhat" of a comparison between the 72/73 frame (switcnblade) and the 42 & 23. Pic is a tad deceptive due to blade style on switch...... sorry I don't have a group that includes a true 72 but I believe the frame is same as switch....I'm sure Barry or Monk has a better comparison pic for you bro.

I've carried the 72 quite a bit and it is one of my favorite patterns. Recently I decided to try a 42LB in the pocket; since it is a larger knife, the usual carry method leaves something to be desired as the knife lies crosswise in the pocket. I've been testing out an alternative pocket carry method that another member came up with. (I don't remember who) He stitched a small seam up one side of the pocket starting up an inch or so from the bottom and up maybe an inch or so. I've been trying this carry method, but using a safety pin so I can adjust the size and position to suit any sized knife up to the big 23. The method works very well and I haven't stuck myself yet or had any trouble losing the safety pin, even going thru the wash. Of course you can always carry it in a belt sheath too. As far as the knife itself, I am fond of large folders and the 42 is sweet! You won't be disappointed.

Sounds like the 42 has been given a big thumbs up by the community! Seems to me that at least it's closer to the 72 than to the 23, which is pretty encouraging.
Btw, gunstocks jack, you Totaly validated my pocket stitch idea!! I posted that a couple months ago to show how I EDC my hogan with improved comfort. Worked so well I stitched a pocket in each pair of pants I have! That same pocket works great for my 73 and I'm sure a 42 would fit.

To Big Monk- My big hope was to find one of the black micarta jobs, of which there were like 7 made

I learned that a little late. If anybody would have one it'd be you

but I wouldn't expect you to be lettin that one go. I just wanted a real tough material that I could use at work.

Oh! So that was
your idea! Good one!!! That method of carry works very well for me. Thanks Mike!!! Sorry, no canvas micarta here, but several other handle materials left to choose from in my store(s).
