All About Pocket Knives

I've been collecting knives for a while but not very knowledgeable when it comes to buck knives. I was at a local show last week and couldn't pass this one up. I've posted a few pictures and am looking for those of you more knowledgeable than me to offer some free education. Based on tang stamp, etc., how old is this knife?

Nice knife, looks like it is in excellent condition - been looking for one of those myself. That Buck 307 (a large Stockman pattern known as the Wrangler) was made on contract by Camillus - the Buck Camillus era was from approx 1971 through 1985, not sure when the 307 itself was introduced, but those are your maximum time parameters. OH

I bought this used Buck Wrangler 307 (1971-74 era) off of an internet gun & knife website on Christmas Eve; it arrived today. On my initial inspection the knife looked fine, used but fine, however it had no snap at all on the sheepfoot blade and virtually none on the spey blade. I was pretty angry as I specifically sent an email to the seller and asked him about the opening and closing snap - he assured me it snapped fine! Thanks to a previous post by 300BUCKS I knew about cleaning Buck knives in hot water and detergent first, then drying with compressed air followed by lubing well - otherwise I would have sent it back! It seems to be gaining snap as it sits and the oil soaks further into the joints. Glad to finally put a Buck Wrangler in my collection. OH

What is the difference between a 307 Wrangler N7 and a 307 Wrangler N9?
