All About Pocket Knives

I won this Kutmaster rope knife over the weekend and WOZAH is she a beast.....I knicknamed him Studley McDoWright!

Does anyone know the era of this knife?

That is a great looking knife! I'd never even get it in the same room with a buffer. Maybe a little Metal-Glo or such but nothing more.
I never did see any comment about the age but I would guesstimate immediately post-war. Kutmaster made one that looked exactly like that for the Navy.

Post which war Ray? If it was post WW II could you be a little more specific.

I did see some of those Navy/Kutmaster knives on the bay.

In the book Pocket Knives of the US Military by Silvey, there is what looks to be identical knife shown on page 105. That knife on page 105 was made for the Coast Guard, I believe.

I agree with Ray; post WW II and maybe as late as the '60s, (but I am no authority on Kutmaster).

Definitely post WWII, but the handle covers may be the best dating indicator unless you find the company that contracted for the knife. That style of imitation wood seems to have come sometime in the '60s--maybe in the '50s, but I haven't seen any photos or catalog illustrations of it that early.

Doing a search of completed listings on ebay showed a few of those Kutmaster rope knives that were marked on the tang "Approved USCG 1944"....which would indicate to me WWII Coast Guard issue...but all of those appeared to have the real wood handles. Since yours doesn't have that tang stamp or the wood handles, that would seem to me to indicate definitely post WWII.
Not sure about the blade markings on yours either, the "Wale Rope Works", or the "Economy Boat"....did searches on both of those and came up with nada...
Just tryin' to help, awesome old knife either way!

i have one of those apart just now...mine is mid sixties guesstimate...
i sure don't like that plastic...but love those blades.

I did hit 'er with a little Flitz Metal Polish....in anticipation of her being listed on the bay tonight!

I'm sure the handles are Delrin and DuPont didn't open the factory they built to make Delrin until 1958 so I feel pretty safe in saying the knife is probably at least 1960's.

Scott;Here is one of those Kutmaster 1944 Navy knives,she is shown with a Klein rope knife.The tang reads APROVED/U.S.C.G./1944-796/KUTMASTER/MADE IN U.S.A.
